THOSE of you eagle-eyed at the recent BVRLA Leasing Broker Conference will have noticed the returning presence of one Tano Di Girolamo, who was back in his familiar haunt of the leasing broker community.
Broker News managed to catch Tano to get an update on what he’s been doing and to discuss his future plans.
Welcome back Tano – it’s great to see you again. So, what are your thoughts on the BVRLA Broker Conference?
I thought it was great. The content was relevant and interesting and it was delivered with the right mix of important and serious information and humour.
I particularly liked Steve and Spencer’s chat. I think it summed up why it is so difficult to pull away from the sector and how we all help each other to become better at what we do.
I would also like to say the warm welcome I received from everyone after a year out was truly humbling too.
Give us an idea about what’s been happening since we last saw you?
Well, as you know I decided to call time on my career at Bridle Group – which has since been renamed Jurni Leasing of course – and took some time out with a career break to reappraise what I wanted to do next.
‘Next’ turned out to be some consultancy service work with Warwickshire-based Universal Business Team, a global consulting firm that helps family businesses.
What did you do for UBT?
Well, UBT wanted to establish its own leasing division to serve its customers. Up until that point the company had used a variety of leasing companies and rental businesses, but had now decided to take the whole operation in-house. So I was tasked with setting it up, ensuring that UBT had the correct relationships with manufacturers, dealers and so on.
The programme implementation has been extremely successful. I have to say it was great to use my knowledge, experience, and relationships to help UBT. One year on and they are doing great and have surpassed all expectations and targets.
So what’s next on the agenda for Tano?
I’m back, as you can see, and extremely keen to get my teeth into something connected to vehicle leasing!
I have to say I really enjoyed my role at UBT and would like to continue helping people improve their businesses, deal with change and reinvention, help with exit strategies, acquisitions and mergers and anything else that is required of me.
I think I have a lot of experience to offer and talking to my fellow industry colleagues today at the conference has renewed my enthusiasm to be back in the mix of it.
Thanks Tano! We wish you luck and look forward to seeing you at the Broker News Awards at the Coq d’Argent in April next year!
