The AFL Group has unveiled a major upgrade to its award-winning Fleet Management Made Simple (FMMS) platform.
It’s the result of a substantial development programme and the latest since a 2024 update. The overhauled system is designed to give fleet operators a single, comprehensive view of every aspect of their fleet — from mileage tracking and insurance oversight to damage management, driver identification, P11D reporting and compliance with corporate manslaughter legislation.
New direct integrations with the DVLA and DVSA underpin the platform’s compliance capabilities, says AFL, while a link to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) is set to follow shortly.
Servicing, MOTs and mileage are successfully recorded throughout a vehicle’s contract, while a fleet’s mileage can be pooled and contracts adjusted at significant cost savings, according to AFL.
“We started to build a system that made a vehicle compliant and then turned it into a cost analysis centre. So car damage, recharges, MOTs, tyres and, with full integration with Allstar, tracking of fuel costs can all be done within the platform.”
Daphne Fagan, Chair, AFL Group Tweet
A platform built around compliance and safety
At the heart of the upgraded FMMS is a recognition that fleet management carries serious legal and corporate responsibilities. Fagan says the platform is built to address these head-on — managing the full spectrum of fleet risk. These include:
- correct insurance,
- driver identification,
- vehicle damage,
- fuel costs via full integration with Allstar,
- and accurate P11D reporting.
The platform also provides detailed reporting on driver-related damage, while fleet managers can track damage history by driver, making it straightforward to identify patterns and manage liability. Driver fines and offences are also captured enabling duty of care compliance.
Fagan is unequivocal about what is at stake for employers who fall short. “No one wants the expense of running a fleet management system,” she says, “but the opposite of not doing so is negligence and the potential for corporate manslaughter. I think many fleets have forgotten about driver safety and their responsibility to drivers, including the grey fleet.”
She adds that salary sacrifice drivers must also be brought within the fleet management process, and that ensuring the right levels of insurance are in place for every driver — regardless of how they access a vehicle — is a legal and moral obligation that many employers continue to underestimate.
Driver safety in practice
In a belts and braces approach to safer driver management, AFL distributes a Fleet Pack to all customers to support active driver engagement — including items such as a tyre tread depth gauge so vehicle condition can be accurately reported through the system’s driver app.
Developed in-house by associate company Binamic, the app provides a digital wallet of all driver-by-funder information for each vehicle, and allows fleets to configure the frequency of vehicle checks — daily for vans, weekly or monthly for cars.
Combined with vehicle tracking, the platform flags driver behaviours that may require remedial action. AFL has also applied for BVRLA and FORS accreditation in further support of its compliance offering.
Payroll, HR, and management by exception
The platform gives payroll and HR teams full visibility of fleet hotspots, says Fagan; they can pull reports, and driver deductions can be pushed out via the FMMS platform. Fleet management is by exception to avoid overloading the fleet manager with information that doesn’t require action.
Platform drives growth ambitions
Currently AFL has 25 customers using the platform representing in excess of 3,000 vehicles. “We see this rising as we pursue more B2B business, armed with the benefit of a ready-made fleet management platform that’s easy to use,” adds Fagan.
In the recent BN25 2026 league table of leasing brokers, AFL Fleet Management finished in sixth place with 6,325 sales in 2025, a figure the leasing broker and fleet management business expects to grow by at least 20% based on current order take and new client success.
