VOLKSWAGEN has released the first design sketches of its all-electric SUV, called the ID.4.

Due to arrive in the UK mid 2021, the new ID.4 will battle for sales in the compact SUV sector.

SUVs still set the sales trend, with SUVs capturing 42% of total registrations (530,800 units) in July’s European sales figures according to JATO.

Although midsize SUVs slipped -6%, the rest was all positive, with small (+9%), compact (+4%) and large/luxury SUVs (+14%) all up. What’s more, 48% of the electrified vehicles registered were SUVs.

So the new electric ID.4 should be a potent sales weapon for leasing brokers when it arrives.

Range is said to be over 300 miles for the top models. First ID.4s will be rear-wheel drive only, but four-wheel drive versions will follow later.

The ID.4 represents an electric design evolution. Its exterior design is clean, flowing and powerful. It appears strong and self-confident in a new way.
