No question, it was a landmark moment last week: Volkswagen Group announced a massive streamlining of the business as it struggles to meet the pressures of Chinese OEMs (see our main story). Model inventory will be slashed and the business will go high volume on a smaller number of models. Meanwhile, SEAT looks like it’s not going to stay with us as a brand. While these changes will be painful, they are necessary to restore the Volkswagen Group’s competitiveness. It had become inefficient and was caught horribly flat-footed by the electric revolution. But the fact that the group wants to go high volume can only be good news for brokers in the future. Let’s hope management can see the changes through.

Volkswagen will concentrate on fewer models from fewer factories
