THERE were two winners for the first time ever at Silverstone Leasing’s annual Silverstone Soccer five-a-side football tournament.
Held on Sunday 28 June at Daventry Town Football Club, the seventh annual charity event was this year split into two matches during the knockout rounds with a cup and a plate up for grabs.
Twelve talented teams went head-to-head on the pitches during the day at, but it was United African Association who finally emerged victorious in the Silverstone Cup and ProAction Martial Arts and Fitness who won the Embrace Plate.
Monies are still being counted but all proceeds will be split between the CLICK Arts Foundation, which support groups who focus on social inclusion and personal development through the arts, and The Lewis Foundation, which provides free gifts and support packs to adult cancer patients in hospitals across the Midlands.
It is the first year that the event has had new beneficiaries after raising more than £30,000 for Cynthia Spencer Hospice for the previous six years.
As well as the football fun – which was sponsored by Galahad Design, Ashby Computers, KCI Complete Office Solutions, Northants Life, Wollaston BMW, ProAction Martial Arts, and Single Point Calls – spectators also enjoyed a bouncy castle, DJ music set and a CLICK Arts Foundation workshop.
Organiser of the event and Silverstone Leasing team leader Ryan Bishop said: “What a fantastic day for Silverstone Soccer on Sunday! Some impressive football footwork, fun, competitive matches and a real sense of community spirit.
“Thank you to all the staff at Daventry Town Football Club for hosting us and allowing us to use your brilliant facilities, and, of course, to our supporters and sponsors for making this amazing event possible.”
