THE Labour MP for Edinburgh South West, Dr Scott Arthur MP, met last week with salary sacrifice experts loveelectric.

During the meeting, which took place at loveelectric’s Edinburgh office on Wednesday 15 April 2025, Dr Scott Arthur heard about loveelectric’s leasing model and its work on used car salary sacrifice, which is increasing the accessibility of electric vehicles to a wider driving populace.

As a member of the Transport Select Committee, the parliamentary body scrutinising the Government’s transport-focused work, Dr Scott Arthur is a key proponent for EVs and engaged with lovelectric on the pressures currently facing the second-hand EV market in particular.

Currently, volatile pricing for second-hand EVs means that residual values are under pressure causing acute uncertainty for businesses operating in the sector. Dr Arthur also heard from loveelectric about the further concerns over consumer confidence that particularly impacts the second-hand market: consumer doubt over EV battery health.

To address this concern, loveelectric has teamed up with ClearWatt, whose in-app battery health checker provides accurate data for customers at the point of buying or, in the case of loveelectric customers, leasing their EV.

ClearWatt was a member of a recent round table organised by i247 Group and chaired by the Editor of Broker News, to discuss sustainability beyond the EV.

Loveelectric, which was named Best Salary Sacrifice Broker in the Broker News Awards 2025, also specialises in innovative tech solutions to provide customers with the most up-to-date information on the used EV-market and their vehicles on offer. The leasing broker recently launched Live Vehicle Stock (LVS) API in partnership with Lex Autolease, which synchronises real-time inventory with 50 brokers nationwide, expanding market access to affordable leased EVs for consumers.

“It has been so insightful to see first-hand how innovative leasing models can be such a boost for the green economy. Employer-led schemes are a key motivator to getting more people into EVs and it’s great to see a local business in Edinburgh drive this initiative. For more consumers to see the benefits of driving an EV, affordable access routes like salary sacrifice and the second-hand market should be given our full support.”

Despite salary sacrifice providing a major boost to EV uptake, this increasingly popular purchasing method finds itself at risk, according to loveelectric.

The award-winning salary sacrifice leasing broker says the low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax rates on EVs, making salary sacrifice schemes especially beneficial on EVs, have been frozen or a number of years but are now increasing steadily from April 2025, up to 9% in 2029-30. Businesses operating in the sector are concerned the increase will have a negative impact on demand at a crucial time for EV uptake and for interest in a relatively nascent used-EV market in particular, where consumer confidence is lower.

To alleviate pressure on the market and avoid a slump in demand, the BVRLA is calling on the Government to commit to 0% BiK rates for the used EV market to grant more consumers access to EVs, and further signal its commitment to this section of the market.

Steve Tigar, Chief Executive of loveelectric, commented:

“Getting more people into EVs cost effectively and reliably is at the core of what we do at loveelectric, and knowing that our local MP is backing the sector is such a boost amid a crucial time for EVs, particularly the second-hand market that is the route into car ownership for most. We’re incredibly excited to help spur the next generation of EV drivers. But for this to happen, we need certainty that the second-hand EV market, and EV upfront costs more widely, will remain consistent and affordable for most.”
