An electric vehicle (EV) guide, a charging cable bag and heavy duty gloves are all part of a special EV Fleet Pack for drivers, which is proving a hit for leasing brokers and their customers.

TOO often, drivers are handed the keys to their first EV without being educated on how to drive or charge the vehicle.

That’s something that Fleet Packs, which supplies tailored driver packs to leasing broker clients, has addressed.

It has created a driver pack specifically for EVs which includes a digital ‘how to’ guide, covering essential information such as how to get the maximum range out of an EV, safety features, the different charging cables and apps.

Drivers access the guide using a QR code and it is frequently updated to take account of changes in the market.

The pack also includes a charging cable bag to protect the cable, and heavy duty gloves so drivers don’t have to deal with a wet or dirty cable in bad weather.

Driver safety has been given consideration too, with a number of emergency items, such as a four-in-one beacon, torch, LED flare, life hammer and seatbelt cutter.

Broker bespoke branding on packs

Importantly for brokers, everything can be white labelled, either with a broker’s branding or the fleet customer’s branding.

“We want to bring a better customer experience for brokers. Their communication with a customer might only be over the phone and once the deal has been done it’s quite easy for the customer to forget who has supplied the metal - they just see their payment going to the leasing company each month. But by giving the driver a branded pack that sits in the vehicle, with items that can be used on a daily basis, the broker remains in the customer’s mind.”

Rather than sending the driver pack to the dealer, Fleet Packs sends it directly to the driver either the day before or the day after the vehicle has been delivered. This acts as another touchpoint with the customer, and is also used as an opportunity to ask for customer feedback.

Tom says this call to action is far more effective than if the pack had simply been put in the boot of the car on delivery.

“When dealers start working with us they notice an influx of positive reviews.”

EV Fleet Pack a ‘no-brainer’ for Vanaways

Liam Nicholas, business development director at Vanaways, says that new customers are always impressed when they receive a driver pack from Fleet Packs as it surprises them, makes them feel valued and the items are “high quality”.

Fleet customers also “love it” because it helps them from a health and safety perspective, according to Liam.

He also praises Fleet Packs’ fast turnaround time (24-48 hours, when needed), which matches Vanaways’ own commitment to get vehicles to customers quickly.

“It’s a no-brainer for us. Every fleet customer I sell a vehicle to has one (an EV Fleet Pack). Generally, drivers are taking an EV for the first time and it’s a daunting task if they’ve had no prior experience and they’re used to a manual vehicle. The ‘how to guide’ gives them the insight they need.”

LCB Group has acquired a number of electric vans from Vanaways and has been delighted with the driver packs, particularly as it has been able to have bespoke items with LCB branding.

“I am thrilled to have received EV Fleet Packs with each of the vehicles we have acquired through Vanaways. The quality of the bags alone is second to none. We were over the moon when we found out we could have bespoke items in each pack. The EV Fleet Packs received also helped us keep our charging cables secure, safe, and waterproof, alongside the gloves for those cold mornings plugging in. Finally, the QR code we get which helps drivers learn about their EV and charging was a great addition, particularly for those less familiar with EVs. We look forward to continuing our business with them moving forward.”
