CENTRAL Contracts took action on the rapidly approaching Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate, hosting the leasing broker’s local MP in a strategic meeting to help shape the industry’s future.
Forming part of the BVRLA’s Industry Champions programme, the visit (Friday 22 March) saw Managing Director, Mike Lloyd, host MP Jack Brereton to the leasing broker’s Stoke-on-Trent site.
Mike Lloyd commented: “Engaging with the people that can make a difference at a local and national level is vital. Our sector is constantly facing change and upheaval. We face new regulations and changing terms. Each has a material impact on how we operate to ensure standards are high and customers are protected. That is on top of a generational shift towards zero-emission vehicles, where appetite and knowledge varies from one customer to another.
“Being able to discuss the impacts of such changes with our local MP is invaluable. We are grateful to Jack for taking the time to visit Central Contracts and value him representing our views in the Houses of Parliament.”
“It was fantastic to learn more about Central Contracts and their partnership with the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association in helping deliver the sector's transition to greener vehicles. I know associations such as the BVRLA play an important role in ensuring businesses in this sector are properly able to engage with Government in formulating policy which is beneficial to the industry. It was great to hear first hand the important role that Central Contracts is playing in helping motorists to find the best possible deal.”

Friday’s visit marked the inaugural activity from the BVRLA’s recently launched Industry Champions programme, which works with the association’s members to reach out to their local MPs and build relationships. Through visits such as that hosted by Central Contacts, members can share their challenges with local decision makers, while at the same time underpinning the sector’s key asks of government, said the BVRLA.
Chair of the BVRLA’s Leasing Broker committee, and CEO of the lcv group, Rod Lloyd (pictured left), added: “Making a difference starts from the ground up. The BVRLA does excellent work representing its members at the very heart of government. Every meeting makes our collective voice louder and helps pull us towards universal improvements around regulations, policy and investment.
“Members have to play their part too and the Industry Champions programme is a great way to ease their way in. The BVRLA does all the legwork, while members can benefit from getting their challenges heard by those in a position to bring change at a local level.”
