JANAURY 2026 was the strongest month ever recorded for used hybrid vehicle sales, according to Marketcheck, with 36,832 units sold across the UK.

Tracking over 650,000 cars and 11,500 dealers across 16,0000 locations daily, the data provider says that this surpasses the previous record of 32,750 set in July 2025 and represents a large increase on January 2025 when 29,405 used hybrids were sold.

Monthly used hybrid sales have more than doubled since mid-2023, when typical volumes ranged between 13,000 and 17,000 cars per month.

Hybrid vehicles have shown consistent growth throughout 2024 and 2025, with monthly volumes regularly exceeding 30,000 units, reflecting their growing appeal among drivers seeking improved fuel efficiency without fully transitioning to electric.

“January 2026 marks a landmark moment for the used hybrid market, with sales reaching their highest level on record. This continued growth shows that hybrids are becoming an increasingly popular choice for UK drivers.”

“For many buyers, hybrids offer a practical middle ground – delivering improved efficiency and lower emissions while retaining the familiarity and convenience of traditional petrol engines. As affordability and availability continue to improve, hybrids are now firmly established as a major force in the UK’s used car market.”

Marketcheck’s historical figures show used hybrid sales went from 17,676 in May 2023 17,676 to 36,832 in January 2026.
