LOOK After My Car is in the business of helping people prepare for the unexpected. The company’s GAP Insurance and Smart Plus Insurance products are designed to provide drivers with greater peace of mind when things don’t go to plan. But some of life’s unexpected challenges are far bigger than anything that can happen to your car.
As part of its commitment to giving back, Look After My Car has made a donation to Acorns Children’s Hospice to help the charity continue its vital work supporting seriously ill children and their families.
Some of the Look After My Car team were also fortunate enough to visit one of Acorns’ hospices and see first-hand the difference it makes to children’s lives.
“What struck us most was that Acorns isn’t simply a place for medical care – it is a place filled with life, laughter, memories and hope,” commented Rober Sleat, Head of Telesales & Auto Leasing Brokers at Look After My Car, who presented the cheque to the staff.
Helping children be children
Acorns provides specialist palliative care and support to babies, children, and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Its support goes far beyond clinical assistance. At Acorns, children can enjoy tailored activities, games, music, hydrotherapy, sensory rooms, gardens, and quality time with their families.
For parents and siblings, Acorns offers emotional and practical support, short breaks, therapy, emergency and end-of-life care, and bereavement support. Ultimately, it helps families spend precious time together and gives seriously ill children the opportunity to experience more of the childhood they deserve.
Creating an environment for families to share precious moments
For families living with serious childhood illness, everyday life can become incredibly difficult. Acorns creates opportunities for families to play, laugh, share a meal, watch a film, enjoy a swim, or make a special memory together. When time is limited, these moments are very special indeed.
A call to action for vehicle leasing & broker businesses
However, there is a cost to this care:
- There are three specialist hospices serving families across the West Midlands and Gloucestershire.
- 806 children and their families are supported and cared for in the past year alone.
- £40,000 is the daily operating cost of the Acorns hospices.
- £7.70 out of every £10 must be raised through donations and voluntary fundraising.
“As businesses operating within the automotive, car leasing, and fleet sectors, our daily work centres on mobility, reliability, and helping people navigate their everyday journeys with peace of mind,” Robert continues. But for the families supported by Acorns, the most important journey is the one spent together.
“Vehicle leasing companies and auto brokers are uniquely positioned to make a lasting impact. Whether by pledging a small donation for every lease contract signed, introducing corporate fundraising challenges, choosing Acorns as your annual Charity of the Year, or encouraging corporate gifting, your business can directly fund the care these children rely on.
“Aligning your brand with Acorns not only demonstrates strong corporate social responsibility to your vehicle clients, but it turns everyday commercial success into meaningful, real-world relief.”
Why Look After My Car supports Acorns
Our business is built around a simple principle: looking after people when they need us most. Our insurance products provide reassurance when motorists face unexpected costs, but Acorns does something much bigger. It supports families facing some of the most difficult situations imaginable, providing expert care, compassion, and opportunities to create precious memories.
That is something we are incredibly proud to support – and we urge our peers across the leasing and automotive industries to join us.
