- Generational EV battery testing technology will be used across 21 Motorpoint stores and its two dedicated preparation centres
- Testing of more than 1,500 Motorpoint vehicles revealed an average battery health of 96.6% across both EVs and PHEVs. 97% of EVs tested showed battery health above 90%, with 36% scoring over 99%
USED EV buyer confidence could get a major boost as Motorpoint introduces battery health certificates through Generational.
Motorpoint is the UK’s leading independent retailer of nearly new and used cars, stocking over 6,000 vehicles at any time and preparing more than 65,000 per year.
As Motorpoint further expands its EV operations, the new partnership follows a successful trial. Across more than 1,500 used EVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles tested nationwide, Motorpoint’s stock returned an average state of battery health of 96.6%. Notably, 97% of Motorpoint’s EV stock achieved a SoH above 90%, while 36% scored over 99%.
A Generational certificate provides verified information on a vehicle’s battery condition, its real-world range and remaining warranty. The latest data from Generational’s rollout shows that battery-electric vehicles tested with its technology sold four days faster than untested EVs – up from 7.3 days last year.
Motorpoint will only retail EVs with a battery health rating of ‘very good’ or higher. Providing transparent, data-backed assurances for motorists looking to make the move to electric is a core pillar of Motorpoint’s retail strategy.
Curtis Ainsworth, Head of Preparation at Motorpoint, said: “With more motorists making the move to electric, we wanted to give car buyers the reassurance they’re looking for when opting for a battery-powered vehicle. Generational’s testing solution offers accurate, transparent and data-driven battery health information that’s easy for customers to understand – which ultimately helps them buy with confidence.”
“Battery health is fast becoming the new mileage in the EV era. Buyers want clarity and confidence, and our technology enables industry-leading retailers like Motorpoint to deliver that in minutes.”
Oliver Phillpott CEO, Generational Tweet
“It’s proof that transparency empowers customers and drives stronger business performance, so we’re thrilled to see Motorpoint leading the way in making battery health data standard across the UK’s used EV market.”
Generational says that its solution is a straightforward process that requires minimal staff training and can be completed in minutes by connecting a compact device to the vehicle’s OBD port. It securely analyses the vehicle’s data to determine its battery’s state of health, benchmarked against manufacturer standards and Generational’s comprehensive EV battery database.
The results are displayed in an intuitive, customer-facing certificate giving clear, verified information on the condition and expected performance of each vehicle’s battery.
