VAUXHALL is gearing up for a new Spanish-built EV as part of parent company Stellantis’ strategy to grow the European market for EVs.
It is part of a joint venture with China’s Leapmotor called Leapmotor International (LMPI). In October 2023, Stellantis became the single largest shareholder of Leapmotor with an approximately 21% stake and currently sells the Fiat 500-rivalling T03 and the Tesla Model Y sized C10 through European Stellantis dealerships.
Designed and created by Opel-Vauxhall in Rüsselsheim, Germany and developed by international teams located in Germany and China, the new Vauxhall C-segment electric SUV is expected to be on sale in 2028 alongside the current SUV range, consisting of the Grandland, Frontera, and Mokka.
It would be built on a new line alongside the Leapmotor B10 model which starts European production at the Corsa plant in Zaragoza, Spain later this year.
Stellantis is also looking at adding a new Leapmotor model to the Villaverde, Madrid plant after the end of production of the Citroën C4.
Since launching the T03 and C10 models in 2024, LPMI has expanded its presence across the region to more than 850 points of sale and service, with more than 40,000 shipments in Europe in 2025.
