FMG appoints Andy Chandler as Managing Director

ANDY CHANDLER is the new Managing Director of accident management company FMG. The appointment is effective immediately.

Andy joined FMG in 2015, serving as Sales Director with the business since 2019. He succeeds Claire Owens, who stepped down from the role to explore new opportunities, earlier this month.

FMG is owned by ZIGUP plc, which has acquired a variety of companies in the automotive services sector, which came from the merger of Redde plc and Northgate plc in 2020.

“Andy’s expertise and strategic focus in the fleet and insurance sectors, along with his wealth of industry knowledge and commercial expertise, will be invaluable in driving the business forwards and leveraging the opportunities to deliver against our plans. Andy’s appointment speaks volumes about the talent and calibre we are proud to develop from within the business, with his promotion signalling strong continuity and consistency for the business.”

FMG specialises in incident management services, partnering with the leading fleets and insurers in the UK to service claims. Recently the separate operating company FMG Repair Services appointed Paul Wrigglesworth as Managing Director.

Mercedes opens battery recycling plant

Mercedes opens battery recyling plant

MERCEDES-BENZ has decided it’s time to close the battery recycling loop with its own in-house facility – the first for an OEM in Europe.

The recycling plant in Kuppenheim, southern Germany, creates a genuine circular economy according to Mercedes. The expected recovery rate of the recycling plant is more than 96 per cent. Valuable and scarce raw materials such as lithium, nickel and cobalt can be recovered – in a way which is suitable for use in new batteries for future all-electric Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the company said.

“Mercedes-Benz has set itself the goal of building the most desirable cars in a sustainable way. As a pioneer in automotive engineering, Europe's first integrated mechanical-hydrometallurgical battery recycling factory marks a key milestone towards enhancing raw-materials sustainability. Together with our partners from industry and science, we are sending a strong signal of innovative strength for sustainable electric mobility and value creation in Germany and Europe.”
