MERCEDES is offering both petrol and diesel plug-in hybrids as part of its facelift for the E-Class Saloon and Estate.

The E 300 e features a petrol 2.0-litre engine and a 13.5 kWh battery for a combined average of 176.6 mpg and emits just 37 g/km of CO2. The E 300 e has an all-electric range of between 33 and 35 miles.

The E 300 de has a 2.0-litre diesel engine again with a 13.5 kWh battery and can deliver as average of 235.4 mpg. It emits just 33g/km of CO2 with an all-electric range of between 32 and 34 miles.

Both models can be charged via a 7kW home wallbox in just 1.8 hours.

More traditional four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines now offer 48v mild hybrid assistance.

The range, which is on sale now for autumn delivery, features Sport; AMG Line; AMG Line Premium; and AMG Line Night Edition Premium Plus.
