BROKERS placed 3,455 vehicle orders through QV Systems’ Accelerate platform in January 2025 – a 66% increase on December 2024’s number.

The cloud-based leasing and lending platform provider says it was the busiest month since it began producing monthly league tables of orders in June 2024, beating the previous high of 3,241 orders in September 2024.

Vans were responsible for a significant chunk of the growth. There was a 77% rise in overall van orders from businesses in January 2025 compared to December 2024.

Ford Ranger tops van chart

The diesel Ford Ranger climbed from second place in the business LCV chart in December to the top spot in January, as businesses looked to beat April’s tax changes when double cab pick-up trucks will no longer be classed as commercial vehicles and will be subject to company car tax.

The Ford Ranger has featured in the top 10 for the past eight months, since the chart’s inception. The Ford Transit Custom diesel took second spot in January for the second consecutive month and the Transit Courier petrol entered the chart for the first time.

The latter was the only petrol van to feature in a chart which was dominated by diesel models, owing to the hurdles many businesses face switching to electric vans.

However, Toyota’s Proace City L1 Electric did make it into the chart for the first time in seventh place.

Decrease in electric car orders

BMW XM

The percentage share of electric car orders going to businesses dropped significantly in January from 50.7% in December to 35%.

Nevertheless, it’s well ahead of the 21.3% share of the overall new car market in January, according to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Five full-electric models made it into QV Systems top 10 cars for January, although all of them dropped places on the previous month.

A new entry in first place was, unusually, a high performance plug-in hybrid model, the BMW XM. Its appearance certainly surprised CEO Daniel Layne.

“A very strange vehicle to find at the top of the charts this month, the BMW XM! I think I've seen the grand total of two out in the wild, but I will be keeping my eyes peeled for some more rolling onto the road soon.”
