- Salary Sacrifice scheme offers 20-50% off EV charging
- Takes aim at public charging costs
- John Godfrey – pictured above – expects to save £50 a month
IN a move set to electrify the UK’s EV market, The Electric Car Scheme – a salary sacrifice specialist broker – launched ‘The Charge Scheme,’ a groundbreaking initiative allowing employees to slash their EV charging costs by 20-50% using salary sacrifice. This applies to both home and public charging, including rapid and ultra-rapid options, according to the broker.
The scheme tackles the growing issue of public charging costs, a major hurdle for drivers considering going electric. With rapid charging prices averaging 24p per mile – 40% higher than petrol or diesel, according to the RAC – The Charge Scheme aims to make public charging as affordable as, or even cheaper than, running an ICE vehicle.
"Cost remains the primary barrier for over two thirds of potential EV adopters. This is particularly true for those without access to home charging and off-peak tariffs. The Charge Scheme addresses this challenge head-on, making EVs a more viable option for everyone."
Thom Groot, CEO and Co-Founder, The Electric Car Scheme Tweet
Early adopters are already singing the praises of the new scheme. Pam Pinder, who secured her EV through The Electric Car Scheme, anticipates saving £300 in her first year. “The Charge Scheme was an amazing surprise,” she says. “The app is fantastic, and the savings are very welcome, especially with the rising cost of living.”
John Godfrey, another satisfied user, expects to save over £600 annually. “Without a home charger, I was spending a fortune on public charging,” he explains. “This scheme will save me over £50 per month – it’s a huge relief!”
The Electric Car Scheme said it continued to push the boundaries of innovation in the EV space, offering practical solutions that helped EV uptake and supported the UK’s net-zero ambitions.
How the Charging Scheme works
- 20-50% savings on charging costs: Employees can save 20-50% on the cost of charging their electric vehicles at home, at the office or on the public network.
- Simplified Charging Process: Seamlessly integrated with the existing salary sacrifice through The Electric Car Scheme, allowing employees to manage both their car and charging costs through one easy-to-use platform.
- Flexibility and Convenience: Employees can charge their vehicles at one of over 50,000 charge points in the UK using the app or their Charge Scheme card.
