MORE than two-fifths (43%) of 2,000 UK motorists surveyed by Peugeot UK rate their understanding of electric and hybrid vehicles as ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’.

Key findings from the research, which reveal a lack of consumer knowledge, include:

  • About a fifth (21%) are not sure whether plug-in hybrid and electric cars are different
  • 78% find the ways that different electric vehicle charging providers operate confusing
  • Just 29% of respondents knew that an electric car could charge from 20%-80% in less than 30 minutes using a 100kW or greater DC rapid charger

Stark knowledge gaps by age and UK region revealed by EV research

The data highlights stark gaps by age and region: 49% of 25 to 34 year olds claim ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ EV knowledge, compared to just 13% of over 65s, while geographically, confidence is highest in London (49%) and lowest in the East of England (12%).

Overall, more than fifth (23%) of motorists rate their understanding of electric vehicles as ‘good’ or ‘very good’.

“The latest survey in electric vehicle knowledge shows that progress is being made with electrification in the UK, but there is still more that needs to be done to provide the public with clear information to help them make the switch.”

Nicola Dobson added that Peugeot is committed to supporting motorists through the EV transition with its Peugeot Electric Promise. This includes an eight-year/100,000 miles battery warranty and battery state of health certificate being issued as part of a customer’s service plan.
