FOLLOWING Volkswagen Group’s survival plan called Future Plan 2030, which included the possibility of ditching the SEAT brand, the Group has announced a further statement confirming SEAT is outside its future plans, but sister performance brand Cupra is very much the favoured child.

While SEAT has a clear product roadmap for the coming years, went the company’s announcement, beyond the current product cycle the SEAT brand’s future was under intense discussion.

“As things stand today, increasingly demanding regulations, the economics of electrification and the investment required to develop a new generation of models make the decision for further investment in the SEAT brand increasingly challenging.”

Cupra will continue to drive growth, profitability and positioning

However, it’s a very different story for Cupra, which was launched in 2018.

Having delivered over a million vehicles during the past eight years, the company said that it remained one of Europe’s fastest-growing automotive brands, with eight models launched in eight years.

The focus through to 2030, said Volkswagen Group, was to realise Cupra’s full potential, targeting a 3% market share across Europe, supported by the continued renewal of its product portfolio and further international expansion.

Cupra would enter the Middle East in the third quarter of 2027, it said, and had a longer-term ambition to enter the United States.
