A RECENT survey by Startline Used Car Tracker on Chinese car brands revealed that Xpeng, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is predicted to be the most successful new entrant in the UK car market, according to 36% of dealers.
Closely following Xpeng are Omoda (34%) and BYD (31%). Lynk & Co and Nio both received 24% of the votes, while other brands like Jaecoo, GWM ORA, Zeekr, and HiPhi also garnered some recognition.
“It can seem as though a new Chinese EV entrant to the UK car market is announced every week but our research shows that dealers are starting to build up a picture of which they think are the most credible.”
Paul Burgess, CEO at Startline Motor Finance Tweet
Burgess highlighted that Xpeng’s top position is particularly interesting, given that they haven’t entered the UK market yet, while other brands like BYD and GWM ORA already have cars on UK roads.
He further noted that dealer perceptions might be influenced by various factors, including press coverage, models, and the development of franchise dealer networks.
“All of the top three in our results are, we believe, adopting a traditional franchise model for their sales and support networks, so at least some dealers in our survey are likely to be actively talking to these manufacturers about their UK strategies,” Burgess added.
The Startline Used Car Tracker, conducted monthly by APD Global Research, surveyed 301 consumers and 58 dealers for this report.
