Tesla tops June, as Lex Autolease says momentum is beginning to build
HOW the pandemic is changing the face of vehicle registrations. Electric cars continue to accelerate, with Tesla topping the SMMT’s June charts, and battery electric vehicles outselling diesels.
Meryem Brassington, electrification propositions lead at Lex Autolease, reflecting on the figures, said: “Momentum is beginning to build along the road to recovery from the pandemic, but today’s half-year figures still represent a 28% drop on pre-Covid levels, indicating that the car industry isn’t out of the woods just yet.
“Despite this, it’s encouraging to see the growth in EVs continue to show no signs of slowing down, with registrations up 138% on this time last year.”
The pandemic has also created a demand for home deliveries that has seen a rush for vans, led by Ford. Astonishingly, the Transit Custom is the best selling vehicle in H1 2021, with 26,978 of Ford’s van registered, beating the second-placed Vauxhall Corsa with 24,399.
