FORD has fitted its plug-in hybrid technology on the Transit and Tourneo ranges. First to bring plug-in power to the market, the Transit Custom has a 35 mile electric-only range, and more than 310 miles combined.

Fitted with a 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine, the Transit Custom Plug-In Hybrid van can run in electric, hybrid, or petrol modes. The electric motor is powered by a 13.6 kWh battery, which can be charged from either the mains or the engine.

Net payload for the Transit Custom is 1,130 kg. A one year trial has shown that 75% of the fleet’s mileage in Central London was completed using electric power alone. For Greater London, that was still 49%.

Ford also offers the Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid. Able to seat up to eight, the model is targeted at shuttle and private hire companies. The Transit Custom PHEV will return 91.7mpg with CO2 emissions of 60g/km. The Tourneo Custom PHEV sees those figures at 79.1mpg and 70g/km.
