THAT darling of personal leasing consumers, the Mercedes A-Class, is on the skids with premium rival Audi and its A3 sporting the sharpest elbows.

New data from leasing deal aggregator Leasing.com reports that, during January, the Audi A3 topped the list of leasing enquires, followed by the Volkswagen Golf and affordable Vauxhall Corsa.

It’s a significant fall from grace as the Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been the most popular car to lease for the past two years, reports the website.

Similarly, Audi topped the Leasing.com manufacturer league table, with Mercedes-Benz slipping to fourth place behind Volkswagen, Land Rover and BMW.

Commenting on the findings, Paul Harrison, head of strategic partnerships at Leasing.com, said:

“The Coronavirus pandemic has changed so many things about the way we live our lives including the products and services we consume. Although many consumers still need access to their own transport, their choices are changing. They’re driving fewer miles, and often opting for less premium vehicles to help manage their finances.

“Monthly prices for the Vauxhall Corsa start at around £120 per month on a 5,000 annual mileage deal. For many that’s less than the price of a monthly train ticket for key workers who still need to get to work.”
