FORD is stepping up its electric car roll out with the launch of the new Explorer.

It will come to the UK later this year. Indicative pricing is around the £40k mark.

The first passenger car product of the Ford tie up with Volkswagen, the new Explorer is based on the ID.4 platform. It will be built in Cologne, Germany.

No details yet about range, but expect between 220-330 miles depending on battery option. Ford says 10 to 80% charging will take just 25 minutes.

The new Ford Explorer is a five-seater with a boot capacity of 470 litres.

Features include a fully loaded infotainment system, 15-inch movable screen, wireless app integration and advanced driver assistance. There’s also Clear Exit Assist that provides warnings of approaching cyclists before opening doors in busy city centres.

Available as both rear- and four-wheel drive, the all-new Explorer will be available in two highly specified versions – Explorer and Explorer Premium.
