VOLVO is offering new customers of its PHEV range a year’s free charging. Aimed at boosting efficiency and zero-emission miles, those who pick a plug-in hybrid Volvo will get the electricity used to drive their car in the first 12 months reimbursed.

With plug-in hybrid options across the entire line-up, Volvo will use its On Call app to see how much electricity has been used when driving. It will then calculate a payment based on a national average electricity cost, and reimburse the driver.

The offer is open to both personal and business customers, with the driver in either scenario receiving payment, even if the car is run by a company or fleet manager. The intention is to maximise driving on electric power to improve efficiency, and the responsibility for that, Volvo believes, lies with the driver.

Kristian Elvefors, Volvo Car UK Managing Director, said: “It’s crucial that we help our plug-in hybrid customers understand how they can make the most of their car’s electric potential. So, by meeting their electricity charging costs for a year, we can encourage them to develop the good habit of regularly recharging their car’s battery, as well as saving them money at the same time.”
