CONGRATULATIONS to Lee Duerden who has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2024.

The Chief Executive Officer of XLCR Vehicle Management received the prestigious accolade in recognition of his exceptional philanthropic service to charity, community groups, and people in Pendle, Lancashire.

The citation read:

Lee Duerden, a renowned business leader, automotive finance professional, and graduate lawyer, has made significant contributions to various charitable and community initiatives within Pendle. His dedication to philanthropy has played a pivotal role in enhancing the lives of many individuals and families in the region.

Under his leadership, XLCR Vehicle Management, which came together with Global Vans in January of this year, has not only excelled in the automotive industry but also become a beacon of corporate social responsibility. Mr Duerden has spearheaded numerous events, provided extensive volunteer support, and personally contributed to a wide range of charitable causes. His efforts have been instrumental in giving substantial funds and raising awareness for vital community services and organisations.

Commenting on the recognition, Lee said he was “deeply honoured to receive the British Empire Medal” which was a reflection of the incredible work being done by charities in Pendle, and the continuing support of the community.

“I am committed to continuing our efforts to make a positive impact and inspire others to join in these vital initiatives,” he added.

When asked about his motivation to serve the people of Pendle, Lee said that he had been lucky to grow up spending time with his late grandfather Frank Storey, who ‘Colne born and bred’ would enthral his grandson at an early age with tales of the town’s great benefactors.

“Colne’s history is replete with legends like Sir William Pickles Hartley, of Hartley’s Jam acclaim, who after making his fortune even gifted a hospital to the town and its people. And whilst not daring to include myself in the same league, I was inspired by these entrepreneurial individuals who worked hard, but who never forgot to give back to their hometown and communities,” Lee continued. “I hope by me receiving this award, one day my story will go on to inspire others from future generations to do the same”

The British Empire Medal is awarded for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown. It acknowledges the valuable contributions of individuals who have made a significant impact on their communities.
