VOLVO’S S60 saloon has been given two new trims and a new powertrain for customers to pick from. Joining the existing T5 petrol engine is the new flagship in the range – the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

The new T8 Twin Engine model produces a combined 390hp from its four cylinder petrol engine and electric motor. Performance is brisk at just 4.6 seconds 0-62mph, but it’s also frugal.

Official WLTP fuel economy is rated at 176.5mpg, and CO2 emissions are 39 g/km. As such, the performance model will also cost little to run based on fuel and tax costs, and there’s set to be an even faster 405hp S60 T8 Polestar Engineered version due in the near future.

at the same time, Volvo has updated the trim levels. R-Design Plus replaces the launch R-Design Edition specification. This gives the S60 a sportier look and suspension, while Volvo’s Inscription Plus trim is also added to the line-up. The latter focuses on a luxurious feel, with high levels of equipment offered on both.

Prices start at £37,935 for the T5 R-Design Plus, with the T5 Inscription Plus version costing £900 more. The T8 Twin Engine R-Design Plus starts at £49,805, and is currently the only trim available with that engine.
